Enrolment Policy

The Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia has a Policy Statement on Student Enrolment. This Policy contains a priority order that is used to select students for whom an offer of enrolment will be made. The priority order contains 8 categories and the top 4 of these categories are as follows:

1. Catholic students from Catholic Primary schools with a Parish Priest reference.

2. Catholic students from non-Catholic Primary schools with a Parish Priest reference.

3. Other Catholic students from Catholic Primary schools.

4. Other Catholic students from non-Catholic Primary schools.

Over the past 6 years Sacred Heart College has only been able to offer places for students in the top 2 categories with only limited places for those in category 2.

Note: The College also includes the following priorities when making offers of enrolment.

  • Every effort is made to accept brothers and sisters of students currently enrolled but no guarantee can be given.
  • Every effort is made to accept the sons and daughters of ex-students of the College.
  • Consideration will be given to the length of time for which the application for admission has been lodged with the College.
  • Priority is also given to the admission of students requiring entry to the Education Support Unit (ESU) for those with varying disabilities and learning difficulties.

Enrolment Procedures

The selection process for new families wishing to enrol their child into Year 7 is a lengthy and time consuming process as outlined below:

New Families

  • An interview with the parents/guardians and child is conducted in Semester One when the child is in Year 5.
  • Near to the time of this interview a number of dates will be available for a tour of the College facilities with the Director of Students.
  • Families will receive a Parish Priest Reference Form. This is an essential document for the enrolment process as outlined above.
  • Interviews are conducted throughout Semester One as there are always a large number of applicants. During Term Two the Principal visits the Parish Priests and Principals of the surrounding Catholic primary schools to discuss the applicants and collect the Parish Priest Reference forms.
  • Offers are then sent out at the end of Term Two.

Education Support Unit

  • Education Support enrolments follow the same procedures as listed above. Enrolment priorities for the ESU are dependent on the educational needs of the individual student and the College's ability to meet these needs. Non-Catholic students may gain a place in the ESU if there are vacancies.
  • Students applying for admission to the Education Support Unit will be required to attend an interview with the Principal and Head of Education Support and are asked to bring the latest Psychological Report to the interview.

Siblings

  • Brothers and sisters of students currently enrolled or accepted for enrolment will go through a slightly different process with their interview being conducted later in the year.

Due to the high demand for places at Sacred Heart College, where not all Catholic students can be offered a place, we are unable to consider non-Catholic students for mainstream enrolment.
