Quick Log On:

Anneliese Sullivan

In our continuing efforts to promote academic excellence, we have introduced an extension activity in Year 8 which promotes and harnesses creative writing skills. Anneliese Sullivan (Year 8) was one of the students who were selected by their teachers to enter the Make Your Own Story Book Competition 2009.

Congratulations to Anneliese. Her Storybook titled “The Journey” received third place in the state wide competition which draws thousands of entries from Year 8 students.

Their work will also be displayed at “The Place” in the Alexander Library from 24 August to 4 September.

Jayde Panos

A Year 12 student gaining national success is Jayde Panos.

Last term, Jayde won the Australasian Junior Masters golf competition by 6 strokes. The win has secured her a start at next year’s ANZ Ladies Masters at Queensland’s Royal Pines.

Recently, she has been competing in Victoria.

Jayde will play in the next Australian Women’s Open competition and at the moment is rated Number 13 in Australia.

Well done Jayde!

Katie O’Shea

Another Year 12 student needing mention is Katie O’Shea in the field of Tennis.

Katie has been Captain of the State team, named in an Australian Honour Team and has competed internationally.

Earlier this year she won both the singles and doubles titles at the Australian Clay Court championships.

Blair Evans

Blair Evans (Class of 2008) has recently booked her ticket to Rome as a member of the Australian Dolphins team which will compete in the 2009 FINA World Swimming Championships from 19 July.

Blair qualified after she took out her first national title with a win in the 800m freestyle event, setting a new personal best time.

In a close race, she showed experience beyond her 17 years, and managed to hold off challenges from Melissa Gorman (QLD) and Olympic gold medalist in the 4 x 200m relay, Bronte Barratt, to record a brilliant win.

Simon Assmann, High Flying Former Student

The College recently received a letter from Associate Professor Don Ibana, the Head of the Minerals Engineering & Extractive Metallurgy Department at Curtin University, regarding the achievements of one of our former students, Simon Assmann. In his time at Sacred Heart College, Simon was a high achieving student, culminating with the Dux of the College Award in 2004.

After graduating from Sacred Heart College, Simon commenced a Bachelor of Engineering (Minerals Engineering) at Curtin University. He recently graduated from that course with First Class Honours and outshone his peers by receiving every award available to him, prompting the letter from the Associate Professor.

It is always very pleasing to hear of the successes of former students. Hopefully Simon’s achievements can serve as an inspiration to our current students.
