Memorial Garden Statue

Parents may have noticed that our Chapel now has a large white cross on the Western wall.

This cross is a part of our Memorial Garden which honours the memory of students and staff who passed away while at the College. The cross is visible from West Coast Drive and will eventually be lit up at night with the colours of the Church year.

This week, we added to our Memorial Garden with the installation of two beautiful statues designed by renowned Perth artist April Pine. The statues, one of a boy and one of a girl, are reaching out to each other in very symbolic gestures that give the impression that we never really say goodbye as long as we remember those who have gone before us. They say, “I see you.”

We are very grateful to our Parents and Friends who have supported this project from the beginning. This will be a lasting legacy for many generations of Sacred Heart families. Our College Executive Assistant, Emma Killian, has been instrumental in bringing the project to fruition and we have had the benefit of the expertise and energy of our Facilities Manager, Kim Street. Thank you also to Sandra Manning, Dean of Year 10, for her original artistic concept for how we could develop our Memorial Garden.

(April Pine won the People’s Choice Award at the Bondi Sculptures by the Sea last year and featured her “Man and Fourteen Dogs” at Cottesloe’s Sculptures by the Sea this year).
