helen clarke academic

Obstetrician Helen Clarke has played an important role in so many Sacred Heart families' lives, yet what many wouldn't have known that she was once a student here herself. A member of the Class of 1971, Helen has delivered thousands of Perth babies, but says that her absolutely greatest achievement is her daughter Erin.

Helen grew up in the town of Coorow, the same town as current Principal Mr Bothe, who says "There were only four Catholic families in Coorow at the time - so Helen and I and the others would go out of class for RE lessons in the bough shed!" Helen came to Sacred Heart as one of the first Boarders with our RNDM Sisters in Sorrento.

Helen remembers the influence Mr Bingley had on her. “He was the first male teacher in the school. I really loved mathematics and he was a very good teacher.” Her fondest memories are the friendships she formed in the boarding school and the biggest changes she sees are the massive increase in size, the myriad of new opportunities for every student and the great new infrastructure available for students to engage in College life.

In 2016, we managed to get a photo of some of the Sacred Heart babies that Dr Clarke has delivered, including a future Sacred Heart student - Mr Porter's beautiful daughter. Dr Clarke - you have had an impact on families across every year group of our College. There are many mums and dads who are eternally grateful for your inspirational work and wonderful support.
