Bunuru and Lyon House Liturgy and Lunch

Feb 11, 2026 3:00 PM

Students, staff, and special guests gathered in the Chapel this morning for the first Liturgy of Bunuru and Lyon. The Year 12 House Captains, Heidi (Bunuru) and Sinead (Lyon), brought forward the banners before commencing the Introductory Rites of the Mass, the First Reading and the prayers. The liturgy was a time to reflect on the Houses’ values and meaning, creating a sense of connection, belonging and pride.

Celebrations continued as Bunuru and Lyon students and staff were also treated to a sausage sizzle, cupcakes and games during lunch while enjoying a special smoking ceremony and First Nations dance performed by Binar Futures Performance Dancer Group on the Boarders Lawn. Thank you to Noongar Elder Michelle Nelson-Cox for her inspiring words and smoking ceremony.

Bunuru House reflects its deep connection to Whadjuk Noongar country and the Bunuru season, which symbolises growth and renewal within our coastal College community. It also honours the College’s beginnings over 60 years ago when Mr Noonan secured the land for the Sisters, two of whom were his daughters who later dedicated their lives to serving marginalised people.

Lyon House honours Euphrasie Barbier’s time in Lyon, where she rose from hardship to establish the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions in 1861. From this beginning, she inspired her Sisters with a commitment to Jesus' mission of care and compassion for people throughout the world.

A huge thank you to our amazing staff, student volunteers, and the P&F volunteers who helped make the launch of Bunuru and Lyon so special.
