New Houses Name Reveal

Sep 9, 2025 7:11 AM

Today's Whole School Assembly marked the beginning of a new chapter as the names of the two new Houses were revealed to students and staff - Sorting Hat style. These two new Houses were developed to reduce pastoral care group sizes across the College, ensuring that each student has the opportunity to be well known and cared for.

After a voting process, we are delighted to introduce the names of these new Houses - Bunuru and Lyon

Bunuru House has strong connections to the Whadjuk Noongar country of the original inhabitants in Sorrento. The Noongar Season of Bunuru reflects the ongoing growth and development of our vibrant coastal College community. Bunuru House also illustrates the very beginnings of our College, over 60 years ago, when Mr Noonan found this land for the Sisters to build the school on. Two of his daughters later became RNDM Sisters, dedicating their lives to the service of those living on the margins.

Lyon House is reflective of Euphrasie Barbier’s time in Lyon, France, when she emerged from hardship to form a group of religious missionary women in 1861 - The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (RNDM Sisters). From Lyon, Euphrasie inspired her Sisters, with a deep devotion to Jesus’ mission to bring care and compassion to God’s people around the world.

Students now have the opportunity to elect to move to one of these new Houses and, along with House Coordinators Mr Harrington (Bunuru), Mrs Surty (Lyon) and House Captains Heidi (Bunuru) and Sinead (Lyon), will have the opportunity to select their House's colour, motto, crest, charity, mascot and totem.
