SHC Receives Honour of Hosting the Migrant Jubilee Cross

Apr 21, 2026 2:30 PM

This morning, we were blessed to host the very special Migrant Jubilee Cross in our Chapel. This beautifully crafted wooden cross is travelling around Australia on a pilgrim boat base and contains relics from the Holy Family and St Mary MacKillop.

The Migrant Jubilee Cross aims to offer the Catholic Church in Australia an opportunity to mark the Jubilee of Migrants in October 2025, while continuing to acknowledge and celebrate the faith, gifts, contributions and resilience that migrant communities bring to our local Church and the world. As of this week, the cross has travelled approximately 7,388.90 kilometres on its pilgrimage.

To make the liturgy even more meaningful, we were joined by Mrs Annette Morey (Executive Director of Catholic Education WA), along with students and staff from St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School and Irene McCormack Catholic College.

Students took an active role in the celebration, carrying the Migrant Jubilee Cross to the altar and leading the readings. Many chose to proclaim a Prayer of the Faithful in their family’s language, including Tagalog, Indonesian, Polish, Afrikaans, Vietnamese, and Arabic - a beautiful expression of the diversity and unity within our faith community.

Thank you to the staff from CEWA, Ms Moreton and Mrs Westneat, for making today’s special visit possible, and to Fr Cyprian for leading us so beautifully in prayer during our liturgy.

The cross will now continue its journey across the Archdiocese of Perth, before travelling through every state, diocese, eparchy and parish in Australia. You can read more about the Migrant Cross and its journey on the Australian Catholic Migrant & Refugee Office website.
