House System
The College House System is a vital part of Sacred Heart College life. It is our students' 'House away from home' where they can build relationships in safe and welcoming spaces.
Our passionate House Coordinators collaborate with students and staff to create a diverse range of House activities and events both across year groups and the College to build strong connections and a sense of belonging.
Honouring History, Culture and Creation
Each House is deeply connected and reflective of an important chapter of the College's rich history and the Charism and spirituality of the RNDM Sisters. House identity is illustrated in each House's motto, prayer and charity fundraising, as well as the crest and our marvellous and mischievous House mascots. Additionally, each House's First Nations Totem serves to guide student stewardship and responsibility to conserve local environment and protect native fauna and flora.
House Spirit and Competition
Our students have regular opportunities through the school year to earn points for their House by participating in activities across our Four Pillars: Spiritual, Academic, Cultural and Sport. From interhouse debating, drama, art and sport competitions to our annual Sing Your Heart Out event and the popular House Spirit Carnival, House Spirit is truly alive and active on campus.
Students can also earn House points by demonstrating the College's Core Values of Courage, Compassion and Respect and by participating in PCG activities, fundraising events and masses. Students who receive the most House points in a year are presented with a Heart of the House badge that reflects their commitment to their House's motto, character and charism.
These friendly and fun competitions encourage students to work together towards their shared goal of winning the Concordia Sancta, which is awarded to the winning House during the Annual Awards Night at the end of the year and is followed by House Victory Day.
A 'House Away From Home'
Students are first welcomed into their House Pastoral Care Group (PCG) during our incoming Year 7 Orientation process, staying with their House PCG class for the entirety of their six years at the College.
To support Year 7 students to settle in and build strong connections with their peers, they are given additional opportunities to bond within their House group. Common core subject classes, PCG class masses, camps and reflection days all provide ongoing opportunities for students to connect with their peers and further develop their social confidence.
House connection is celebrated when our students graduate in their House PCG classes at the Year 12 Graduation Mass and Awards Dinner.
